Hello! My name is Elle Haines. I am from St. Louis, MO, and I am a fourth-year undergraduate student studying psychology at the University of Denver. Currently, I am completing an Internship Field Experiences course at DU with Dr. Jill Holm-Denoma, where I first heard about the impactful work being done at Kimel!
I have worked as an RBT since July of 2024, which has opened my eyes to the importance of supporting neurodiverse individuals in living life on their own terms while minimizing distress related to neurotypical expectations.
I am particularly interested in learning how to make therapy and psychological research more inclusive. I have had the privilege of working as a research assistant in the Social Perceptions and Attitudes lab at DU, which has been instrumental in this interest of mine. Here, the research focuses on children's developing perceptions of race and gender. Using this background, I aim to show up and encourage others to show up, recognizing when and how their own biases might prevent effective treatment.
I am excited about the opportunity to work with Kimel. I hope to learn and contribute in meaningful ways, supporting individuals experiencing distress, particularly those who have been under represented for far too long in treatment and psychological research.
In my free time, I like to go to concerts and get cat toys for my cat Poppy. I am excited to get to know you!
